Imagine you are a psychologist who has set out to “prove” that people are born kind––that is, that compassion and kindness are instinctual and automatic as opposed to socially learned or culturally derived. What would constitute the strongest evidence for such a claim and how might it be gathered? In an essay of 450-550 words, please describe this evidence and outline the study that would be necessary to generate it. While you should include more than 2 citations, you must include at least one reference to a course lecture and at least one reference to an assigned reading.
In other words, you are taking the stance that humans are innately compassionate and kind. What are the strongest pieces of existing evidence that support this assertion? What additional evidence would provide the strongest support for this assertion, and how could you collect that evidence in a research study? Your essay should focus on the methods for your proposed study and your rationale for using those methods.
Be creative. And remember: you can outline any study you’d like––even one, for example, that is run all over the world––so long as you provide the rationale for the different features of your study.
