    Organizational Diagnostic
    Instructions
You’ll learn about the small business you’ll be collaborating with throughout the term and will conduct a thorough organizational diagnosis using the PESTELE framework and SWOT analysis. The organizational diagnosis will help you to have a deep understanding of the external marketing environment and unique values of your client’s business.

    PESTELE analysis
A PESTELE analysis is a tool, or a framework to understand, analyze, and monitor the external marketing environment (macro-environmental factors) that have an impact on the business. The results from the PESTELE analysis could be used to identify threats and weaknesses for a SWOT analysis. PESTELE stands for:  P – Political | E – Economic | S – Social | T – Technological | E – Environmental | L – Legal | E – Ethical

Identify the significant factors stated that could impact your client’s business, discuss why they are important and what specific impact they might have. Below are some examples of things that might be considered in each of the factors. You do not need to address all of these. ONLY discuss the factors that will impact your business. If they will not have an impact, you can mention this.

Political: Labor law, government policies, taxation, trade restrictions, political stability, etc.
Economic: Economic growth, exchange rates, interest rates, inflation, unemployment rates, disposable income, unemployment rates, etc.
Social: Population growth, age distribution, education, cultural differences, lifestyle and trends, health and welfare, etc.
Technological: Innovation, technological growth, research, skilled resources, tech awareness, automation and AI, etc.
Environmental: Weather, natural disasters, environmental policies, climate change, pressure from NGOs, etc.
Legal: Employment law, copyright law, trade unions, health and safety, consumer protection, laws addressing discrimination issues, etc.
Ethical: Bribery, confidentiality, intellectual property, international trade ethics, reputation, equal opportunities.

    SWOT analysis
Conducting a SWOT analysis is a powerful way to evaluate a business irrespective of the size of the business or the number of employees. The SWOT analysis is a technique that we use to determine and define a company’s Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. Most commonly, we use SWOT analysis to determine how closely a business is aligned with its growth trajectories and benchmarks for success. We assess and evaluate the internal and external factors through SWOT analysis.

Strengths (s) and weaknesses (W) refer to internal factors. These are usually the resources and experiences that are readily available to you. External factors, on the other hand, influence and affect the business and the individuals connected with the business. These factors are usually connected directly or indirectly to an opportunity (O) or threat (T). External factors are typically the things that your business does not control.

After you conduct both the PESTELE and SWOT analyses, come up with the following:
Based on information from the client presentation in class as well the PESTELE and SWOT (i) identify the three main challenges your client may be facing and discuss why you think these challenges should be addressed.
Propose HIGH-LEVEL strategies to overcome the three major challenges you identified.

    Writing instructions
Your assignment will be graded based on the elements mentioned above in the assignment instructions as well as criteria such as the quality of your analyses and strategies; feasibility of your proposed strategies; quality and readability of your paper; grammar and punctuation; following the APA guidelines; etc.
This assignment will be the outcome of thorough research. Cite your sources using the APA guidelines – both in-text citation as well as citation in the references section at the end of the paper. You should also follow the APA guidelines for formatting the paper. Note: Single line spacing is acceptable in tables (i.e. the SWOT).
Your sources should be peer-reviewed journal articles, trade journals, news articles, organizational websites, etc., with an emphasis on peer-reviewed journal articles. Feel free to reach out to our UCW librarians if you’d like to learn how to find peer-reviewed journal articles from our library website.
Use headings and sub-heads throughout the paper so that it’s easy for me to follow your points.
Use Times New Roman, 12-font, 1.5 line spacing.
Do not exceed 10 pages excluding the title page, references pages, and the appendix (if there’s any). Write your name, ID, course title, and section in the title page.

    Prompt
Describe two different ways that Shanghai or its characters express their understanding of your chosen concept (i.e., Ethics, Gender, Self+Other). Explain why they are different.
    Required Materials
    Yokomitsu Riichi, Shanghai, pp. 1-45
    Format
One page, double-spaced, Times New Roman or similar, 12-point font. Follow citation practices described in the citation guide.
    Tips (thanks for your questions!)
    • Please review the work 1 Rubric 下载 P 1 Rubric(posted Thursday 1/9).
    • I expect to see at least two pieces of evidence. You do not need to include more than that.
    • Use the evidence you collected in your Evidence Journal if it is relevant.
    • By “explain why they are different” I actually mean explain *how* they are different. You don’t have to make a historical argument to explain why Yamaguchi and Osugi think about the Ethics of using human bodies as commodities differently. Instead, I want you to point out exactly what the differences are between their two understandings of the Ethics of human bodies as commodities.
    • You can imagine your audience to be people who are already very familiar with Shanghai (that is, me and your TA). You do not need to include any context for a “general reader.”
    • Do your best to avoid the Forbidden Words. It will make your interpretations more interesting and more useful for the next stages of the course. Of course, it makes sense to describe Kôya et al as “Japanese.” However, I would shy away from describing their sentiments / actions / thoughts as evidence of a “Japanese sense of ethics” or “Japanese notions of gender.”
    • Please write in complete sentences and use paragraphs. You do not need to include an introduction or conclusion (unless they help you to communicate your points more clearly). You do not need to follow any standardized work format.
    • You do not need to include a Works Cited page.
    • For citations, please follow the simplified citation style described in the Citation Worksheet.下载 Citation Worksheet.
    • You may use the quotes that I shared in class.
    • You may write more than one page, but please do not write too much more than one page (i.e., a few extra sentences is fine, but 2-3 extra paragraphs is too much).
    • Please include your name at the top of the page. You do not need to include any other header information.
    • Your TA will provide feedback on your analysis that you can use to improve for the next work.
