Instructions
The OSINT Collection plan will use the references presented in class, as well as other relevant material, to develop a strategy for collecting OSINT surrounding the scenario selected by the student. This assignment is NOT the actual analysis. You are to consider how, what, and where you might find relevant OSINT regarding your topic. This should assume that your topic is ‘new’ and little to no analytical OSINT has been conducted on your topic. There is no standard format for the OSINT Collection Plan. However, it should have the following characteristics:
The report should be based on the information requirements YOU develop for your scenario.
Assist your supported decision-maker in visualizing their problem.
Cover current and future issues surrounding your topic.
Use a variety of OSINT sources.
From both “mainstream” and “unique” sources
Offer intelligence/information from both sides of the issue.
Cover the collection capabilities of all echelons involved with your problem.
Contain precise and directive language.
Written Assignment Guidance
Your written assignments should include:
Name, Title Page, and appropriate headings
Typewritten in double-spaced format
Times New Roman 12-point font
1-inch page margins
Appropriate citations and references
It should adhere to graduate style standards which means no informal writing, slang, or jargon, well organized, and well cited. While specific citation counts can vary, a good rule of thumb is approximately 10 academic sources and a minimum of 2-3 citations per page to add weight to your arguments.
Your OSINT Collection Plan should be between 5-10 pages and organized as appropriate for your scenario.
NOTE: This is a collection PLAN, not actual analysis or reporting. As a guide, consider that you are a mid-level analyst and you are mentoring a junior analyst on where to find appropriate information, why you are using that appropriate information, and any ‘tips/tricks’ or stumbling blocks that might occur along the way. Your next assignment will fulfill the actual reporting.
The OSINT Collection Plan will be evaluated by the instructor using the APUS Assignment rubric scoring guide.
