THE ORIGINAL ASSIGNMENT THAT SHE WAS WRITING ABOUT:
Introduction and Purpose: Briefly introduce your research proposal topic.
Question 1: Compare/contrast Grounded Theory (Glaser & Strauss) and Constructivist Grounded Theory (Charmaz). Discuss participant selection, data collection, and analysis.
Question 2: Compare Descriptive Phenomenology (Husserl) and Interpretive Phenomenology (Heidegger). Discuss participant selection, data collection, and analysis.
Question 3: Explain how Critical Social Theory and Feminist Theory may be applied to various methodologies. Discuss the purpose and application of these theories.
Question 4: Define Participative Action Research (PAR). Explain its purpose and application in research.
“My name is Kelly. I’m my topic for my research proposal is how increase social media time impacts the mental health of adolescents. So both are grounded in constructivist grounded theory could be used to conduct research for adolescent populations. They would both use, uh, in-depth personal interviews. However, the grounded theory would choose participants from different background, and the constructivist grounded would specifically choose participants who have experienced social media and depression. The um constructivist theory would focus more on how. Social media contributes to the feelings and can provide a richer understanding, and the grounded theory would essentially just identify patterns related to social media and depression. Um, interpretive phenomenology and descriptive. Also both can be used. Um, they would both use in-depth interviews on adolescent populations. The interpretive would find the meaning behind the social media experiences. They would, you know, for example, how these, uh, adolescents interpret feelings of inadequacy after seeing a post. And the descriptive would find common emotional responses such as sadness, anger, depression among participants. The critical social theory would focus mainly on how these social media platforms can be used as, uh, power structures. Capitalism, consumerism. The feminist theory can focus on how these adolescents are exposed to models and unattainable things and sexuality on social media. The participant reactionary action research actively involves the participants. We’re going to have all these adolescents be involved in designing the research. They can give us insights on how it affects their personal life, and they could even be the voice to encourage healthy use on social media platforms. Thanks.”
