Administrative Supervision Case
Case Descriiption:
You are working in a social service organization and supervise a small team of 5 (you as the supervisor and 4 social work employees). Your team is comprised of you (supervisor), 2 office-based clinical staff, and 2 case managers (home and office-based).
The agency has instituted a new policy addressing employee productivity standards. Previously, employees were expected to meet a 50% productivity expectation (20 hours per week in documented direct practice services). The new standard requires 60% time spent in direct service contacts. A monthly team incentive has also been instituted. For each team that reaches a cumulative productivity standard of 60% documented productivity hours, each team member will receive an additional 2% pay increase for that month. A 2% pay deduction will be applied should the individual or the team fail to reach their overall productivity expectation.
You have both administrative (66% of your time) and direct practice (34% of your time) responsibilities. You are expected to review and discuss this new policy in your team meeting, monitor and report staff productivity hours, and review these outcomes at monthly team meetings. You are also responsible for individual supervision of team members and regularly review their productivity outcomes in weekly supervision.
