The topic is: By the 16th century, Spain is an empire where ‘the sun never sets.’ Starting in the Middle Ages (around the 5th or 7th century, if you prefer), describe important aspects of the historical process that produces “Spain”
I would like the focus of this essay topic to be the convivencia in Al-Andalus in relation to the formation of Spain. To discuss how the period of convivencia (the coexistence of Muslims, Christians, and Jews) in Al-Andalus influenced Spain’s cultural development, and how it eventually contributed to the political and religious unification of Spain under Christian rule.
Specifically, I would like the essay to:
Provide an overview of the historical context of Al-Andalus, particularly during the peak of convivencia, and how Muslims, Christians, and Jews coexisted and contributed to cultural and intellectual advancements.
Analyze how the decline of convivencia and the eventual religious and political unification of Spain impacted the multicultural aspects of the Iberian Peninsula, especially with the end of the Reconquista and the expulsion of non-Christians.
Conclude by exploring how the legacy of convivencia persists in Spain’s cultural identity, despite the shift toward religious uniformity.
Please include bibliography It needs at least two academic sources other than my textbook, but it’s in Spanish so I will figure out later on how to insert that into the final product.
